Having sold – and bought – several properties in the past, I have a fixed but personal idea on what I look for in an estate agent. Seeing how they act in the eyes of a buyer gives you a good insight of how they will act towards sellers.
As an example, I have visited potential new houses with estate agents who have made fun of the decor or taste of the owner. If they do that in front of a buyer you can be under no illusion that you will be immune if you use them to sell your house.
On the other hand, I have seen estate agents who are creative – but honest – when it comes to showing a buyer around, suggesting uses for rooms that I had never even thought of and really making me feel passionate about the place – this is the kind of estate agent I like!
Lastly, they should have a good website, interactive if possible, as nothing puts me off more as a buyer if I cannot search easily or if the site is difficult to navigate.
