If you are looking to buy a house or apartment in a foreign country, such as Italy, one strong piece of advice is to spend some time in the town renting before you buy. Too many people try to make a final decision on their new home through internet details, even if they have never even visited the city!
If you are moving to Rome, make sure that you stay in a Rome City Apartments apartment for at least three months if you can. This will give you the chance to spend some time in the city and get to know the different districts. Spending a short holiday there is very different form actually living there and three months is the shortest recommended time to really get to know it.
Houses or flats which look great on the internet rarely live up to it in real life and there is invariably something wrong with them such as location. A great house in a terrible district of the city is not recommended!
Take the time to go and visit several properties, as many as you can, to get a feel for what is available and at what price. You will be surprised at what there is on offer that you could never have found on the internet.
Taking the time to rent first will avoid costly mistakes later!
