In 2002 the MPAGB launched the World Class Start and Potential Programme to identify and develop young Modern Pentathletes of the future. In 2005 this programme was renamed the World Class Talented Athlete Programme. Bernie Moss, Director of the South of England Modern Pentathlon Academy (SEMPA), is the MPAGB National Development Coach for this programme. The MPAGB National Swimming Coach, Pearse McGuigan is also based at SEMPA. Potential Modern Pentathletes can join the Academy to combine academic study on a range of courses at Hartpury College (Associate Faculty of UWE based in Gloucestershire) with quality performance coaching performance from Bernie. The Academy also acts as a feeder centre to the World Class Performance Centre in Bath. Application and selection for entry to SEMPA will be through MPAGB

Specialist facilities for horse-riding, running, fencing and shooting are available on site and the swimming sessions will be held at the new GL1 Leisure Centre in Gloucester.

As a student you have access to the Hartpury Academy of Sport?s sport science support, sports medicine, sports therapy and strength and conditioning resources, in addition to the specialist coaching for the modern pentathlon.
